Maritime Migration and Human Rights in the Mediterranean

Goals & Objectives

 

The II UCA International Summer School (UCA-ISS) is a join of formative and cultural activities with an international character that the University of Cadiz (UCA) offers in southern Spain. It is a forum where the international university community participates with the society of southern Europe through the exchange of knowledge, traditions, languages, cultures, etc.

 

The II UCA International Summer School counts with a specific academic programme organized by the Doctoral School EDUCA, the Foreign Languages Centre (CSLM) and the Spanish-Russian University Foundation of UCA. Moreover, UCA-ISS counts with the participation of International Campus of Excellence of the Sea (cei·mar), the most important consortium of universities and research centres that are focused on the sea in all its diverse aspects (education, research, innovation, culture, etc.).

 

All courses count with the participation of national and international lecturers and researchers from different Spanish and international universities and research centres.

 

In parallel, the UCA-ISS offers a full calendar of cultural and educational activities and events for students.

 

The main goal of this course is to study the dramatic situation of irregular migrations in the Mediterranean. Border crossings at Seas have specific characteristics because of sea dangers and human trafficking. The European Union response to humanitarian crisis, and the Search and Rescue Operations launched by Frontex and the Member States (like Mare Nostrum or Triton Operations). Human Rights of Migrants, in particular of Asylum Seekers and in general for all kind of Refugees in the changing Mediterranean migratory routes..
